Does Flickr Promote the creative commons?

I know creative commons options are offered as an option when you upload pictures. I think flickr does a great job of encouraging the use of creative commons licensing. I think the explanation was clear and the options were surprisingly easy to use. It can only help flickr to have more pictures available for use. I like to share my pictures. It makes me feel like I am doing the right thing. Sharing my work with other people makes me feel good.

Social Bookmarking- I compared a search engine with Delicious for chocolate chip cookies. I used Recipe.com and Delicious. Recipe.com pulled up 211 recipes on chocolate chip cookies and Delicious pulled up 180 chocolate chip cookies. In oberserving both sites, I found that Recipe.com looked and seemed more better to me. Although, Delcious recipes are more current than Recipe.com; I still like Recipe.com a lot better. Recipe.com gets it recipes from a cookbook in the Home and Gardens book. Also I think the Recipe.com looks to be easier and better suited for making an easy recipe.

It’s simple and doesn’t take as long as going on your email website and checking through all of your emails one by one. Everything comes up on one page and you don’t have to search for material.

I found it to be helpful by using the feed reader instead of going through my emails one by one or searching the news section looking for what's new when it pops up on my page what's new in the reader. One of the benefits that I found is that the reader takes less time. Also the reader is more accurate than other news sites that are updated manually and not as frequent.

Car insurance is becoming more of a competitive business.  Having feeds to them helps to keep up with changing policy terms, information, etc.  This feed tells us that even your credit score can affect your policy.  Your credit score and insurance rates are directly related.  In this feed, you can keep up with the latest information that will affect your policy in the future.  It also includes links to other sites with further information and companies to research if you are thinking of changing companies.

Hello!  Hello!  or better yet, Bonjour!
One of the things we had to do in Emerging Technology before going on our Swizterland trip was to set up our blog.  Since I've never done anything like this before, it was a bit intimidating.  Recently, the assignment in our Emerging Technology class, we had to subscribe to Google Reader.  I have to tell you, I am getting a little overwhelmed with so many blogs and feeds and subscriptions we have to set up.  I guess that would be a disadvantage.  The advantage is - they are all contained in one site.  I don't have to go to several sites to see what's going on.

Using Google Reader

By using Google Reader, I found sites that are very easy to find...like Facebook, Ebay, Hickory Daily Record, and plenty of more sites that were interesting. This has made it easier for me because I'm really bad when it comes to finding sites. Plus all the websites are all on the same pages, that makes it less complicated.

Blogging in the dark! Plus Pros and Cons of RSS

I have to share something with the class. I have been getting feeds and I didn't even realize what they were. It is sad. I just thought of them as emails. I am more than a little technology challenged. I do think that it is great to get so many interesting things in your email. All kinds of articles and ongoing conversations. It means that in the waiting room I have something to read and I feel a sense of accomplishment. I can feel a little better about spending so much time waiting to be seen by whoever I am waiting for at the time. I think that the feed reader is a little chaotic. I actually think that this just adds to the tendency towards ADD type behavior that is so common today. Life is just so hectic that it is difficult to focus on what you are doing so we tend to distract ourself from the moment by doing something else. Like at my daughters soccer game I had to keep telling myself not to check my email to pay attention to practise. I very much enjoy this site called flylady.net (not sure I embedded this link the right way I am not sure it is working) I subscribed to it and it has interesting tips about how to declutter your house and support for people feeling overwhelmed, but let me tell you that if you are already drowning in your cluttered life the mass of emails that will fill your inbox from flylady.net will make you wonder why you subscribed. I think that is the point I am trying to make is these things can be too much. You have to ask yourself how much time do I have to read these feeds? Limit yourself to the truly important ones and delete the ones that you aren't interested in. It is better to have all the feeds organized on one feed reader. I am not too interested in logging into another account anywhere.

I think that more and more companies are turning to RSS and Atom feeds to increase their customer base. This customer base can be through bloggers or news media, just about anywhere that can spread the word of an item quickly. I have noticed that more mom bloggers are having give-a-ways through their blog sites, by doing this , it helps spread the word about a product and lets other readers know if this is good or not. A way to the readers to get track of this, is by receiving the updated post on the blogs or other areas through the e-mails. The e-mails make it convent for people to click through and stay updated throughout the day without having to do a lot of searching.

The law firm Dykema uses feedreaders to view, by way of regular feeds, all efforts undertaken by the other attorneys in the law firm, for a particular client, in order to know what needs to be billed for.

Jets International uses RSS to keep customers and suppliers aware of any unused seating on flights and for customer requests. They provide a matching service between private-plane operators and executives who need a flight. The plane operators use a custom RSS reader to keep them updated on available seating to fill customer requests.

Advantages and disadvantages of using feedreaders

The number one advantage of using a feedreader is having all the websites I enjoy in one place. It's very convenient to go to one site and click to view whichever one I'm interested in checking out at the moment and scan the others at the same time when I'm pressed for time.

The disadvantage for me is I'm tempted to spend too much time on the websites because they are so convenient and easy to go from one to the other. When I get started I don't want to stop.

I follow through the RSS, twitter, and sometimes face book, plus I can follow the updates through the dashboard on my personal blog.

When I get her updates through my e-mail there are several things that she has posted through out the day but it is all on one e-mail at one time. I can search through and if I pick one item or all I can just go straight to it.

Pros and Cons of Google Reader

Pros: I like having my favorite websites all together in one place. The most recent news is always updated and available.I like that Google Reader lets you know the articles you have already read. That way you don't have to reread something to get to the next point of interest.

Cons: It would be nice to be able to select certain sections of a website, instead of the entire site. For instance, instead of going to CNN- go to the local section of CNN. Google Reader is also a little confusing. It would also be nice to have it be a little more direct, when learning to use Google Reader there is a lot going on and can get rather confusing.

Using Google Reader

For the past week, I have used Google Reader and subscribed to several feeds to my favorite sites: Hickory Daily Record, New York Times, Fox News, Bible Gateway, Gopherwood Studios Bloge, (my favorite game) and a friend, Amanda Dunn. I have really enjoyed this tool of Web 2.0 because I do not need to go to their sites to see what has changed. The Google Reader sends me the most recent articles or posts with a link to the site. If the post looks interesting, all I need to do is click on the link the reader provides and it will go right to that site. Another benefit is that Google keeps track of everything I have read. One drawback that I have noticed since having the Google Reader is if I had too many sites on mine, it could be overwhelming. I have just nine sites and it is a little cumbersome to me. It is a little hard to read all of it and keep up with the updates. I have to read it every day if I don’t I cannot read it all. Those are the only drawbacks that I can see; I really like my Google Reader.

John Deere

I used Google to search for companies that use RSS feeds in order to make information available to its employees or customers. An article called “How Great Non-Tech Companies Use RSS” looked interesting to me so I clicked on it. http://www.wordsellinc.com/blog/online-marketing/rss/rss-business-beyond-tech-secto/ .There were some top notch companies listed there with a link to each company, so I chose John Deere.

The web page is called the press center and it provides links to company information and news releases, including product announcements and news and information about John Deere and its business activities. Representatives of news media organizations may use the media contacts to gain further information. It also has a page where employees get all kinds of information about changes in the company regarding 401k and company benefits.

In my research I found a company by the name of Jets International that uses RSS as a way to help employees and customers. This article talks about the advantages and disadvantages of using RSS. Jets international uses RSS as a way to keep customers updated on flight schedules as well as customer requests. Plane operators have custom RSS Readers that keep them updated on customer requests that match the available seating. In my search to find how different companies use RSS feeds i found lots of information. In my search i found that bankers are using them to communicate bank rates changes, every time they change the feeds are updated. Also stock brokers use them as well to keep up with stocks, when a specific stock rises or falls the feed is updated. Lastly people in real estate use them as well to announce when houses are available, or when an estate sale is being announced and they are updated daily.

I found a tourism site for Seattle, Washington. My family is planning on visiting the area during the summer of 2011. The site tells of all the beautiful sites in nature to be seen in the area. Pro's and Con's of Google Reader

Pros:

I like the simplicity of Google Reader. You don't have to do a lot of pointing and clicking to get to the stories you want to read. The most recent news is always on the front page.

I like that Google Reader lets you know the articles you have already read. This keeps you from wasting time reading an article more than once.

I like the fact that Google Reader updates whether you are offline or online.

Cons:

A dislike that I have is the fact that you can't choose which articles you want them to post and which articles you have no interest in. I'm a big Duke fan and I subscribed to the NCAA website. I really don't care about reading articles that are about the Tarheels.

Google Reader is also a little confusing. There are so many options once you actually click on an article. Why can't it be a little less confusing? There is no need for share, share with notes, e-mail, ect.....Simplify!

I also brought up Softschools.com. This was a wonderful site for anyone who is having problems with math. Its like having a tutor at your fingers. This site will give you problems to solve along with quizzes to take, with all the help that is available you are able to print out any of their sheets to work on. This site is good for all age of learners. HIGHLY recommend this site. I love it. Thanks for the suggestion!

One advantage of having a Google reader is, Google reader has a icon in which changes as the new information comes in. Some people seem to enjoy the Google Reader.

The disadvantages I found was, it takes a while for some peoples post to show up on the site. Google Reader doesn't seem to have a track updates system.

Google Reader

At first I had a little trouble using Google Reader. I couldn't find the information on the sites that I was looking for.

I searched The Morganton News Herald, Facebook, and March Madness. I found a lot of information about The News Herald and Facebook. There was hardly anything about March Madness, well at least anything good.

I like the fact that it tells you how many subscriptions you have, how many times you have clicked an item, starred items, and e-mails. It also tells you how many items you have read recently.

Pros and Cons of a feed reader

I think that two benefits of google reader are 1) the feeds are updated often. 2) it has a feature that allows you to automatically publish a link blog. Two drawbacks of google reader are 1) There is a lag between posting and showing up on the reader. 2) it only displays parts of some things like newspapers. I also had trouble getting the reader to pull up specific information that I requested.

In the past week I have been using Google reader to follow three different feeds. The three different feeds i am following are TMZ.com, Filmcritic.com and Hickory Daily Record. Once i knew where to search for the feeds they were easy to find and had lots of options for me to choose from. I like using Google reader because it lists all three feeds im subscribed to in one place, one thing i don't like however the three feeds are not in any order at all. Another thing i did not like is that you have to have an Google account to use the site to subscribe to the feeds.

I tried several sites like news, camping, Deer Creek and all came up "no match found." I couldn't believe that none of these sites would come up. These in my mind were very broad topics so I thought this would be easy. I was wrong, everything I tried wouldn't come up.

When I finally brought up camping in NC, it brought up all kinds of sites for "sports and/or "event." I was disappointed in this site. I was looking for a camping area in general.

Pros and Cons

I had a little trouble in the beginning using the Google reader. I could not find links to the sites I wanted to follow. I tried several known websites with no luck. In using this to follow a blog that I already had the exact name for, I had no problems whatsoever. I did not like having to sort through all the various links to hopefully find anything to do with my actual search. Most of the search results had nothing to do with my search content.

There are benefits to using Google reader. Google reader streamlines communications between publishers and readers. You can opt in to content of specific interest instead of a general overview of a topic.

I searched for Ocean Lakes rentals in Myrtle Beach, SC, Old Navy coupons, Cottage Appeal, and Doublewide Dreamer as well as others. Cottage Appeal and Doublewide Dreamer are blogs and I found these with no problems. However, with the others I had to sort through many links.

I subscribed to several sites using the Google Reader. I looked up many sites like; Myrtle beach, channel 9 news, and those sites wasn't showing any information listing. I also looked up the Hickory Daily record and Virgina Beach which also didn't show any information. So i subscribed some information to those websites. Two benefits of using a google reader are: its lets you subscribed other information to those search links and it shows you how many blogs you have subscribed and are following. Two drawbacks of the feed reader is that not much information is linked of many things that you search and you have to use your google account to even blog.

Pros and Cons

Using Google feed reader helps find information easy. Once you subscribe to a type of news you are interested in all you have to do is type in the keyword and what you are looking for is availabe to read. The advantages of feed reader are that it is fast and accurate on your keywords. Google feed reader automtically updates information straight to your desktop. You can monitor news, blogs, joblistings, personals, and classifieds. A lot of news you want to know about is all within a click away. Instead of searching the websites that have the news on them, it is easier to use feed reader to find the article you want to read. Some draw backs I found was that you can only access Google Reader with your Gmail account and the feeds are not in order, you can only find them by keywords.
